What does this error mean?
When you import a product, our system automatically detects the product category based on the product name and description. The error "Unauthorized category" means the detected category is not among the categories your merchant account is authorized to sell in.
Why does this happen?
- Restricted categories: Some product categories require special approval (e.g. pharmaceuticals, weapons, regulated goods). Your account may not be authorized for these.
- Wrong detection: In rare cases, the AI may misinterpret the product name and assign it to an incorrect category. This can happen when the product name is ambiguous.
- Account limitations: Your merchant account may be configured to sell only in specific categories.
How to fix it
- Check your product name: Make sure the product name clearly describes what the product is. Avoid abbreviations or internal codes that could confuse the category detection.
- Request category access: If the category is correct but your account lacks authorization, go to Settings → Category Authorization to request access to additional categories.
- Create manually: Use the "Create manually" button next to the error to add the product by hand and select the correct category yourself.
