Gift Cards for Other Shops and Services Cannot Be Sold on IVO

A gift card, gift certificate or voucher for another shop or service works differently: the customer pays on IVO, but receives what they paid for later, somewhere else.

IVO cannot check whether that shop or service will accept the certificate, how long it is valid for, or what it can be used for. If it is refused, expires or the shop closes, the customer has paid for something they never receive, and IVO cannot help them.

That is why these products are not accepted on IVO, including:

  • gift certificates for a shop, including your own shop
  • vouchers for services, such as a massage, a beauty salon, a restaurant, a photo session or an installation
  • gift cards for other online shops and marketplaces, such as Amazon or Temu
  • gift cards for taxi, food delivery, travel or booking services
  • prepaid payment cards, online wallet top-ups and crypto vouchers
  • “universal” gift cards valid in several shops

A product may be refused with the reason Gift card or voucher for another service when its title, description or photos show that it is money to be spent somewhere else.

The exception: digital platforms

Gift cards, prepaid codes and top-ups are accepted when they are the platform's own and are spent on that platform's apps, games, music, films or subscriptions. For example:

  • app stores: Google Play, Apple (App Store and iTunes)
  • games: PlayStation Store, Xbox, Nintendo eShop, Steam, Battle.net, and in-game currency such as Roblox, Fortnite V-Bucks, League of Legends or Valorant
  • music, films and series: Spotify, Netflix and other streaming services
  • software and other online subscriptions
  • mobile phone credit: Orange, Moldcell, Unite

The title should name the platform and the value, for example “Steam Gift Card, 20 EUR” or “Orange Top-Up, 100 MDL”.

Gift cards spent on goods or services are not accepted, even from very well-known companies: Amazon, Temu or another marketplace, taxi, food delivery and travel services, and prepaid payment cards such as Paysafecard or prepaid Visa and Mastercard cards.

The brands used in the examples below are fictional, except Google Play and Spotify.

Example 1: Gift certificates for a shop or a service

Imagine a cosmetics shop, BELLAROSA, and an air conditioning company, FROSTLINE. Both sell gift certificates to their own customers.

On IVO, they should sell their products instead.

Not accepted

The customer pays on IVO, but gets the products or the service later, from someone else.

Accepted

The customer receives a product in their IVO order, ready to be given as a gift.

BELLAROSA Gift Certificate, 500 MDLBELLAROSA Gift Set: Shower Gel 250 ml + Body Lotion 200 ml
IVO cannot check that the shop will accept the certificate, or help the customer if it does not. This applies to your own shop too.A gift set is a real product: the customer knows what they receive, and IVO follows the order until it is delivered.
FROSTLINE Gift Voucher for Air Conditioner Installation, 1000 MDLFROSTLINE 12000 BTU Inverter Air Conditioner, A++, White
Vouchers for services, such as installation, repairs, a massage, a beauty salon, a restaurant or a photo session, are not accepted. The product itself is sold on IVO.

Example 2: Gift cards for online platforms and marketplaces

A digital platform's own gift card is accepted. A gift card for an online shop or marketplace is not, however big it is.

Not accepted

A gift card for an online shop or marketplace, spent on goods.

Accepted

A digital platform's own gift card, spent on its apps, games, music or films.

SHOPORA Gift Card, 50 EUR – Millions of Products to Choose FromGoogle Play Gift Card, 25 EURSpotify Gift Card, 30 EUR
A marketplace is a shop: the card is spent on goods sold by someone else. This includes Amazon, Temu and other marketplaces.App stores, games, music, films and series: the card is spent on the platform's own digital content.

Example 3: Products that are not gift cards

Some products have “gift”, “certificate” or “voucher” in their name, or come with a voucher, but are not gift cards. They are accepted.

Not accepted

A card worth money to be spent in other shops.

Accepted

A physical product that the customer receives in their order.

Universal Gift Card, 1000 MDL – Valid in 50+ Partner ShopsWedding Money Envelopes with Gold Foil, Set of 10NETVIA AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 Router, with 3 Months of STREAMIX Included
A card valid “in many shops” is still a gift card for other shops.Envelopes, greeting cards and blank gift cards are stationery: the customer receives the item itself.A product that comes with a voucher or a trial subscription is accepted: the customer pays for the router, and the subscription is included.

Selling gifts on IVO

Gifts are welcome on IVO. Instead of a gift certificate, you can list:

  • gift sets and gift boxes
  • products in gift packaging
  • greeting cards, gift bags, wrapping paper and envelopes

Customers who cannot decide what to give can buy the IVO digital gift card, which can be spent on any product on ivo.md, including yours.

What happens if a product does not meet this requirement?

If a product is a gift card, gift certificate or voucher for another shop or service, it may be refused during moderation with the reason Gift card or voucher for another service.

The product will be returned to Draft Products.

A gift certificate for another shop or service cannot be corrected: changing its title or photos does not c[AI image prompt 10] A black Wi-Fi 6 router with four external antennas and a small “NETVIA” logo on its front, standing in front of its retail box printed with “NETVIA AX3000 Wi-Fi 6” and a round corner badge reading “3 months of STREAMIX included”. If the product is a digital platform's own gift card, code or top-up, or a physical product that only comes with a voucher:

  1. Open Draft Products and find the product.
  2. Make sure the title names the platform and the card value, or the physical product being sold.
  3. Make sure the photos show the card or the product the customer receives.
  4. Submit it for approval again.

If you are sure the product was refused by mistake, contact IVO support from the Help center.

A simple rule to follow

Before submitting a product, ask:

Will the customer receive what they paid for in their IVO order, or will they have to go somewhere else to get it?

If they have to go somewhere else, and it is not a digital platform's own gift card or top-up, the product cannot be sold on IVO.

On IVO, customers pay for products they receive in their order.
